The sun was rising slowly, burning the mist away like secrets being peeled off one by one
Saanvi adjusted her bag, tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear, and stepped onto the sun-dappled roads — slippers tapping, breeze warm, and the scent of filter coffee lingering in the air.
Aadhya was spilling all her gossip to Saanvi, from who's dating whom to who got scolded in class, like a walking, talking news channel on full volume.
“I’m telling you, if Reyansh so much as winks at me at the fest—I’m proposing.”
Saanvi rolled her eyes. “You’d marry a man for a smirk?”
“If it’s delivered by Reyansh Shekhawat? Then yes.”
She snorted. “Manda kutti.” (stupid head)
They turned onto the main road, where the traffic was thick and loud. Saanvi instinctively held Aadhya’s arm tighter, guiding her across.
"You know," Aadhya grinned, "the elder brother—Ishaan? Never goes to parties, barely talks, no scandal whatsoever."
“Must be boring,” Saanvi muttered.
Suddenly—a screech.
A loud honk cut through the morning.
A black BMW took a sharp turn onto the street and skidded far too close to the sidewalk.
Before either of them could react—
THUD.
Aadhya went flying to the ground, her tote bag exploding with pens, snacks, and glitter lip balm across the road.
“AADHYA!”
Saanvi dropped to her knees beside her, panic rising like bile. Aadhya clutched her ankle, her face contorted in pain.
From the BMW, a man in a crisp black suit stepped out—broad-shouldered, composed, and irritatingly unaffected.
“I’m so—” he began.
But Saanvi was already on her feet.
Her hands were shaking.
Her heart was hammering.
And before anyone could speak—
SLAP.
A loud, echoing slap across his cheek.
The street went silent.
“Jab tameez nahi hai gaadi kaise chalate hai to kyu chalate ho? Bde baap ki bigdi hui aulad. Tumhe to dekh lungi me kazhudai” (donkey)
Ishaan blinked.
His cheek stung. More from shock than pain.
She didn’t wait.
Saanvi dropped back beside Aadhya and carefully lifted her arm over her shoulder. “Come on. We’ll go to the nurse in college.”
“Saanvi… my ankle…”
“Mai hoon na” she whispered fiercely. “You’ll be okay.”
Without another glance, she walked away—dragging Aadhya, limping, bleeding, but safe.
Behind them, Ishaan stood frozen on the pavement, one hand slowly rising to his cheek.
Reyansh stepped out of the car, eyes wide. “bhai...”
“usne mujhe Thappad mara?” Ishaan said quietly.
Reyansh bit back a grin. “Bhai… unhone apko sirf Thappad nahi mara apka pura nervous system hila diya.”
Ishaan didn’t speak.
His gaze lingered on the girl disappearing into the crowd—the way her hair moved like fire in the wind, her jaw clenched in fury, her eyes sparking with something he hadn’t seen in a long, long time.
The nurse had finished bandaging Aadhya’s ankle, and now she sat sipping warm Boost while Saanvi stood near the window, lost in her spiraling thoughts.
Aadhya finally broke the silence.
“Saanvi…”
“Hmm?”
“itna kya gussa horhi hai thodi si hi chot aayi hai"
Saanvi turned slowly, arms crossed, eyes heavy with unspoken worry.
“Thodi si chot? Tum gir gyi Tmhara pair mud gya tha ye choti si chot hai?”
Aadhya blinked. “Aye… drama mat kar, nurse ke saamne toh statue bani thi ab emotional monologue shuru?”
Saanvi rolled her eyes, but her voice cracked just a little.
“It’s not funny, Aadhya. What if something serious had happened? I mean… Wo ameer log dekh kar nahi chala sakte apni chaar pahiyya tameez hi nhi h bhai”
Aadhya smiled, soft and said " jaane de na yaar mar to diya tune...par kya thappad mara bhai ek no.”
Saanvi stared at her, torn between being mad and melting.
Meanwhile... In the hotel room..
Dim light filters through heavy curtains. The scent of cigar smoke lingers. A grand mahogany desk stands between two brothers.
Reyansh, lounges on a velvet armchair, noisily chomping toast like he owns the world.
Ishaan sits behind the desk, fingers steepled, eyes dark.
The silence is heavy. Until—
"Bhai us ladki ne apko thappad mara hai han mante hai apki galti thi par fir bhiiiii ISHAANNNN SHEKHAWATTTT ko mara hawwww" Reyansh teased.
Ishaan doesn’t look up. His voice is low. Measured. Dangerous.
"Aaj tak kisiki himmat nahi hui ham par hath uthane ki" Ishaan said in a dangerous voice
"Par Usne to utha diya.. Ekdam shik shak shok wale state me Dal kr chali gai aapko" Reyansh laughed.
Ishaan glared at him.
So... what now? You gonna kill her? Advay said.
No.
Then what?
Ishaan finally looks up. Calm. Deadly. A soft smirk on his lips.
I'm going to make her walk into my world.
And when she does…
He paused.
She won’t be walking back out. Ishaan said
Advay grinned.
Noted. Want me to find about her?
ISHAAN: I already know.
He picks up a file from the desk, slides it across.
One word on the cover. Handwritten.
SAANVI IYER.
